Hey Folks,
I know my writing volume has been a bit down in the last month as I’ve been quite busy with IRL work on top of podcasts and the Sunday Drive column. But I just wanted to give you an overview on what to expect as we move toward the fantasy playoffs.
First off, I’m not going to be doing the Sunday Drive tonight for a couple reasons:
one of those is a mix of work and personal life stuff that has me a bit capacity limited at the moment, the other is that as we get into fantasy playoffs and past the trade deadline in all but a few no-deadline dynasty leagues, a focus on what is to come is likely more worthwhile than on what has occured
Therefore, expect this week’s hitchhiker’s guide to be more forward-looking, and I’m going to let some injury news sort itself out before diving into that head first. I plan to write Thursday Night with a streamer’s guide of sorts walking through some key matchups and start/sit spots you may be considering with respect to RBs on the borderline this week
Additionaly, I want to dive into some playoff tournament content over the next couple weeks. Once the season actually ends that will be more likely to focus on the FFPC playoff challenge, but for now Underdog’s Gauntlet is up and running and I’d expect them to continue dropping smaller dollar tournaments periodically. I want to do some content on this over the next few weeks but to be honest I don’t know what the interest level or familarity level with playoff best ball is among my readers. So if you have interest, could you let me know what level of content you’d like most to that end? (in the comments here please).
For those less inundated: Playoff best ball tournaments will be quite familar to anyone who grew up doing “playoff hockey pools” (maybe this is just for Canadians), in that it requires a mix of drafting the highest scoring players, but especially targeting the teams most likely to advance. Each week you need to advance from a pod (a la seasonal best ball playoffs), but while high-scoring players on eliminated teams can advance you through, you’re effectively drawing dead to win it all if you don’t ultimatley have a live roster of players who qualify for the super bowl
This brings up a few major questions that people still debate, even those who have researched extensively on the subject, including how we should construct our rosters, how to handle bye-week teams, and striking a balance between advancing our teams and increasing our odds come the final week if we get there. Especially at this juncture, how to handle teams not certain make the playoff field is another double-edged sword to grapple with.
Can you let me know some of your questions? Depending how many I get I may write the first post on it as a mailbag / introduction, or at least use it to guide my first post on it this year
Lastly, Dynasty ranks are updated as of the previous week, but I will at least have the tiers re-updated as of this week once we get some more injury clarity
Good luck in the fantasy playoffs everyone!!
Thanks for the update, pending tonight's game I may not be in the playoffs anywhere so I'm looking forward to your musings about our future rookies. The hitchhikers guide is the only thing that'll get us through this wasteland of an RB class next year.
I always throw some money at the playoffs best balls just for fun. I never know what I'm doing but just have fun with it. It would be nice to get some insight from someone who knows what's going on.
